I imagine the amount of bicycles on the streets of many Asian cities makes pulling up to the door and finding a place to park a bike difficult.

Still, I would be afraid that my bike would be the one that get caught in that vending machine like contraption.

We have bike lockers here in Indy, I did a blog about them a while back. Its hard if you commute by bike to find a safe place to put it. I thought it would be a great idea in Cincinnati and there are logical places for it like Findlay, fountain square and in teh business district.http://victorianantiquitiesanddesign.blogspot.com/2008/03/would-bike-ports-work-in-cincinnati.html

I agree bike lockers are definitely needed at some high traffic areas.

In Tokyo, just the lack of space, cramped stores and sidewalks, there is no place to just park in front. Everytime I came to a major intersection that had park space, it was crammed with piles of bikes.
