I notice, with fondness and sadness, that both of my last two homes, Charlottesville, VA, and Charleston, SC, are on the list of top walkable communities. There's a podcast on "The Rise of Walkable Urbanism" at Planetizen that might interest you. (http://www.planetizen.com/node/29625)

(Also, by the way, I was involved with First Night in both communities, one more than the other, so if you're still interested in pursuing that idea -- now that I realize I will probably be living here for some time -- feel free to get in touch.
