WP Playground Design

WP playground preliminary design from 3CDC website:

My wishlist for this yet undefined playground:
1. Climbing Hill with slide down
2. Rope or tire swing
3. Visual connection to street and rest of park
4. No generic standardized play structures (except maybe a toddler area)
5. Sandbox or dirt play area
6. Climbing tree or treehouse type platform
7. Shaded parent seating near foot traffic
8. Traditional game area: 4 square, tetherball, hopscotch

Never heard of it but I can guess.

I think one of the problems with typical "playstructure" playgrounds is that they only serve very little kids. Maybe this is a result ofmaking them overly safe and benign.

When I was in high school, the housing project where I lived had a couple of kick-ass playgrounds that my friends would take over around sunset. I can't imagine anything like that being erected in WP.

No dog run here, please.

The dog run is still planned for the NE corner of the park, at 14th and Race, but is quite removed from the playground area. The playground is getting much larger. My concerns are that the play ground is too separated from the action of the street and that it will be just another rubber surfaced play structure just like every other park. I would like to see some creative ways to engage kids in the 8-12 year range more.
