200 Year Old Tree Cut

Yesterday, a beautiful old tree was being removed from the rear yard of 2606 Vine Street. I worked near this tree for many years, and was amazed at how healthy it was. Once, I saw a man collecting acorns beneath the tree and asked him what he was doing. He said that this tree was "older than Cincinnati" and that he collected the acorns to grow new Burr-Oak trees. I'm not sure why it was cut now, but I know that the Corryville Development Association is assembling property in this block for a big new development.

I used to rent an apartment from Bruce Goetzman who had an office in that building where the tree is located...I've always loved the majestic quality of this oak - I can't believe it's being removed!

According to the Corryville CDC website, it looks like Bruce's building (and tree) are going to be torn down for the new movie theater...such a bummer, as i love that building too...

It is the Corryville Economic Urban Development Corporation (CEDC) and I don't think they have a website.
