Sleeping with Infants

We had kids in our bed often from birth to about 2-years old, and it never seemed unsafe in any way. I have heard of cases like the one yesterday in Lebanon, but I had assumed that there were unusual circumstances such as the dad being drunk or having a medical condition. That was apparently not true in this case. Wouldn't you would have to be a really heavy sleeper to roll-over onto an infant and not wake up?

i'm afraid it could be me. i'm a VERY heavy sleeper, and we still have one in the bed. although, she's 14 months now, and close to 30 pounds, so i figure we're safe now.

I am also a very heavy sleeper. Plus I tend to roll up next to my wife in my sleep. My fear was that I woud think it was her while I was smothering our kid. They rarely end up in bed with us now, unless the little guy is feeding.

When they are so tiny you can barely tell if they are breathing. Sometimes I would find myself checking in the middle of the night.

Years ago when I was working really crazy hours, my wife laid our kid in bed next to me while she went to make a bottle. She told me later the kid was screaming the whole time and I slept right through the noise.
