Nextbus Toronto

In 2006, Nextbus was awarded a contract of almost $10 million dollars to install GPS realtime monitoring of buses and streetcars. The new system went beta active today.

It seems silly that anyone doesn't operate a transit system with GPS tracking systems for real-time arrival.

I think the biggest perception problem with transit is the uncertainty. With rail, we know where the damn thing is going instead of taking the leap of faith with a bus. Same thing with real-time arrival. Here in Columbus, the campus bus stops have them but the city bus stops don't.

Even Cleveland is running GPS enabled buses so you can see when the next one will show up.
Wish the Metro would get on board.

I've been told that it is a funding issue. Metro wants to do it, they just don't have the resources at this time...stay tuned though as new details may be developing on this front.
