Empty Avondale House
These are 8 year old pictures of a circa 1905 building I evaluated in Avondale. It was a sturdy but neglected brick structure. The owner had big dreams for the place, but nothing ever happened with the project, and I thought maybe it had been demolished. I was suprised to see that it has been rehabbed into a duplex.

Is this the house R. O. wanted to turn into some kind of art center or something?
I don't know what is worse, tearing a place down or eliminating all its finer character and replacing it with what ever is around. If it doesn't fit - make it fit. Typical of this city - tear it down or do this. The house had so much dignity to work with but instead it has been dumbed-down by the dumbed-down.
Yeah, I think he wanted to make a community art center but where's the money in that? I think saving it for generic housing is better, but only somewhat...
The tree is kind of blocking the roof, but did they remove all of the dormers and re-roof?
I wondered the same thing Kevin. Looks like they did in the front. Chimneys too?? Nice "for the record" photos citykin. Once something is removed you would never know what was there specifically - without the proof. I wish the Ham. C. Auditor would archive all of their property photos, especially the demolitions and older places. Even if it is only one picture of when the place was first built. (I know, an idea one hundred plus years too late).
