The CPS Magnet School sign-up was out of control last year. This year, applications will be accepted beginning tomorrow evening. Hopefully the lines won't start until Tuesday morning, at the earliest. According to the Enquirer, at the end of the application deadline last year, Fairview had 67 students on the waiting list for kindergarten and first grade. But keep in mind that by the time school started in the fall, only 10 were left on the list. This is because some kids get on the list, but they decide to go somewhere else, or the family moves etc...
Even last year with the 3 days of camping out, most people who showed-up to wait in line during the last hours got into the school of their choice.

The camp-out has started. It is insane. Despite all the mails discouraging the camp-out - and me being so naive to follow those rules - there is a tent city on Fairview school property.
Yeah, a very big camp out, maybe bigger than last year, and despite moving it to November, I think it is colder.
At least CPS brought a port-o-let.
I want to know who that first guy is who shows up with a tent. It is all his fault, because once it starts, everyone else calls around and then everyone shows up.
What's wrong with camping out? Fanatics do it all the time for tickets to concerts or sporting events.
Frankly I'm delighted that Cincinnati has public schools worth camping out for. And I'm doubly delighted to see parents who are committed enough to do that for their kids.
The enemy is apathy. This is worth celebrating and belongs on the front page.

The tents had to be removed by this morning, but the line went down the block all day. At 5pm (today), they were making hot cocoa in the caffeteria for the frozen parents in line. At 6pm they started taking applications.
