Curious pages is an great blog highlighting strange, interesting and sometimes innapropriate kids' books. Some great illustrations. I found about a dozen books I want just browsing for a few minutes:
My favorite is Struwwelpeter or "shock headed Peter". An example in that book is Conrad the Thumbsucker who in the end gets his thumb cut off:
I actually read this book to my kids and they loved it.
I was a big fan of Hans Christian Anderson when I was little, and his stories were sometimes really brutal. Some became Disney-fied, which took away the scary elements. Is it bad for kids to read scary stories? A lot of them function as cautionary tales veiled in fantasy.
The goal of this blog is to generate friendships and share information regarding the promotion and retention of families in the urban center of Cincinnati.
